SENIOR CLOUD ENGINEER

The Senior Cloud Engineer role is responsible for designing and implementing new systems using the AWS and Azure cloud platforms, leading internal security and reliability assessments, and working with team members to improve organizational security posture. This role will be part of a brand-new team that is responsible for managing regulatory compliance and expanding the security footprint of new and existing software systems that process billions of dollars’ worth of financial transactions annually; as such, the ideal candidate will be passionate about working with a team to find innovative solutions to real-world security challenges.

This opportunity is 100% remote! It is critical that you come prepared with a self-motivated attitude, great time management, and excellent communication skills.


You can expect your work life to look something like this:

  • Design and implement cloud-based solutions in service of internal customers such as product implementation or support teams

  • Analyze cloud infrastructure and propose improvements

  • Lead penetration testing efforts and other offensive or exploratory security assessments

  • Develop reusable methodologies to guide team approach to various security efforts

  • Iterate on existing system configuration standards

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on cloud systems

  • Write code to automate common or error-prone tasks

  • Work with team members throughout the organization to help build internal cloud knowledge

Required Skills and Experience

In order to succeed in this role, you will already need to have the following types of skills and experience:

  • Significant hands-on professional experience architecting, deploying, and supporting real-world commercial products in the AWS cloud

  • A fundamental understanding of the functions and purposes of at least a majority of the following AWS services:

    • CloudFormation, IAM, Cognito, WAF, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, SNS, SQS, EC2, ECS, RDS, Elastic Beanstalk, EBS, EFS, Secrets Manager, Systems Manager (SSM), KMS, Service Catalogue, Certificate Manager, Kinesis, Guard Duty

  • Comfort with at least one modern high-level programming language such as C#, JavaScript, Java, or Python

Preferred Qualities

While not required, you might be a stand-out if any of the following apply to you:

  • Experience with PCI Compliance

  • Real-world offensive security experience, including working with penetration testing tools such as OWASP ZAP

  • Strong opinions about modern security and infrastructure topics such as the DevOps movement, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, secure credential management practices, etc. Able to clearly explain and present these opinions.

  • Experience with rapid traffic scaling

Educational Background

We believe that a fresh perspective and an eagerness to learn are the most important requirements to be successful in this position. That being said, the following types of credentials may indicate a great fit for the job at hand:

  • AWS Certifications

    • Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, SysOps Administrator, etc.

  • Security Certifications

    • CEH, CISSP, CISM, etc.

  • Relevant degree from an accredited university

    • Computer Science, Cybersecurity, etc.
